Some context is necessary. This photograph is by Chinese avant garde artist Ai Weiwei. There is a complementary photograph of him giving the finger at Tiananmen Square, so he’s not partial to any nation when doling out social criticism.

Although 3D mural painting is not exactly new anywhere in the world, it can still be very compelling when done well. Beijing-based Qi Xinghua (aka: Michael Qi) is a home grown example of the medium done well.
